Program Structure

Short description of program

In a world where data is the new asset, the Big Data in Finance & Banking course provides students with foundational knowledge to understand how data operates, the strategies behind financial decisions, and, more importantly, to shift their mindset to adapt to the challenges and pace of the new era.

The course provides students with:

  • Foundational knowledge of big data analytics models in finance
  • Application of Machine Learning in risk management, fraud detection, and market analysis
  • Integration of quantitative data, text data, and behavioral data
  • Insights into future trends: FinTech, AI, Open Banking, RegTech
  • And most importantly: strategic data thinking at the management level.

In an era where market fluctuations can happen in milliseconds, financial risk management becomes the core of competitive advantage and the value proposition of businesses. In the financial world, profit is the reward for those who understand risk deeper than others. The Advanced Financial Risk Management course is not just about providing tools to prevent risk; it is a study of awareness, market logic, and how businesses “read, measure, and navigate” uncertainty to turn risk into an advantage.

This course will provide students with the foundational thinking that every capital manager and professional investor must face, including:

  • Knowledge of the structure of derivative markets: futures, forwards, swaps, options, and advanced hedging strategies.
  • Understanding and applying modern pricing models like Binomial Trees, Black–Scholes–Merton, and the use of Greek Letters in portfolio optimization.
  • Analyzing Value-at-Risk (VaR), credit risk, and credit risk prevention techniques in real-world banking and business contexts.

Modern managerial finance is not just about cash flow, costs, or profits; it is about how businesses think and act. The Managerial Finance course helps students develop solid financial thinking that supports business management, operations, and the creation of sustainable value. This course is the foundation for anyone who aspires to be a leader with sharp financial insight in the era of data and digital transformation.

The course aims to provide students with foundational knowledge on:

  • Systematic thinking about cash flow, cost of capital, and business valuation techniques.
  • The relationship between capital structure, cost of capital, and business risk.
  • The basis for making decisions on investment or divestment, expansion or preservation, restructuring or maintaining stability.
  • Transforming financial data into strategic language to engage with the board of directors, investors, banks, and internal teams.

In the modern world, economic and financial data is ubiquitous — from balance sheets, FDI flows, bond yield curves, exchange rate fluctuations, consumer behavior on digital platforms, to market signals hidden within the microstructure of transactions. However, to understand this data accurately, we need research methodologies and quantitative analytical thinking to look beyond the data, grasp what is truly happening, and make informed decisions.

The Research and Analytics in Economics & Finance course provides foundational knowledge for students to:

  • Understand and conduct quality research within the context of economics and finance.
  • Apply models such as generalized linear models, causal inference, and time-series analysis: from data processing to result analysis and presenting insights persuasively.
  • Explain and compare key research methods, while evaluating their ethical use, cultural sensitivity, and professional relevance.
  • Apply flexibility and critical thinking in quantitative research — an essential skill for modern analysts, researchers, and financial professionals.

In the context of globalization and the continuous flow of capital, traditional corporate finance knowledge — which centers around the question “What should a company do with its capital?” — now requires an advanced approach: understanding capital decisions in a volatile, competitive, and long-term strategic environment. Advanced Corporate Finance delves deep into these decisions, where numbers are not just figures but the philosophy of growth.

The course provides students with the knowledge to:

  • Apply the risk-return principles to corporate investment decisions under uncertainty.
  • Analyze and evaluate investment opportunities using advanced capital budgeting techniques in an international context.
  • Identify and address conflicts of interest between shareholders, bondholders, and management — a frequently overlooked but strategically critical aspect.
  • Explain the impact of taxes, capital structure, and dividend policies on corporate value.

In the modern investment world, where every fluctuation can be amplified, smart investing is not just about making fewer mistakes, but about understanding more, acting faster, and adapting better. While most people view the market through the lens of data: price – return – β – risk, true portfolio managers understand that beneath these numbers lies a dynamic structure of expectations, psychology, global pricing models, and even ESG factors that are reshaping economic norms.

Advanced Investment Analysis is designed to guide students into this deeper layer, shifting from asset selection to portfolio creation and investment perspectives, through key topics such as:

  • Analyzing investor behavior and risk tolerance in a VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) world.
  • Understanding international asset allocation models and the movement of global capital flows.
  • Evaluating and designing investment portfolios and managing them according to international professional standards.
  • Measuring performance, testing hypotheses, and critically assessing investment strategies.

In an era where capital seeks not only profit but also sustainable value, the capabilities of financial managers today must go beyond traditional optimization models. The Case Studies in Financial Management & Sustainable Finance course provides students with the analytical thinking and problem-solving skills needed to address real-world corporate finance challenges in the context of a global market shifting significantly toward responsible investing, ESG integration, and sustainability governance.

The course focuses on topics that directly impact CFOs, Funds Managers, Investment Consultants, and Corporate Bankers, including:

  • Decision-making in capital allocation and capital structure in the face of volatility and systemic risks.
  • Valuing businesses while considering sustainability factors and social-environmental impacts.
  • Analyzing ESG risks and assessing materiality in corporate strategies.
  • Debating real-life scenarios from global businesses, green investment projects, and sustainable bond markets.

As risk becomes an inherent component of value and growth in modern financial markets, where “uncertainty” has become the “new normal,” the Advanced Risk Analytics course helps students transform traditional risk forecasting into a more strategic mindset. By understanding the nature of risk, students can distinguish between signals amidst noise, recognizing where leverage lies and identifying hidden traps.

The focus of the Advanced Risk Analytics course revolves around three key pillars:

  • Theoretical analysis and practical risk management through market events and historical lessons
  • Evaluating the financial consequences of strategic choices through the lens of risk management.
  • Using big data and quantitative models to build frameworks for integrated risk control and forecasting.
