[𝐇𝐑𝐌 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰] HR’s New Operating Model

Human Resource (HR) Management has constantly adjusted and adapted as new challenges arise. One trend of note that is causing a fundamental challenge to traditional HR is the growth of the gig economy. A second trend of importance for HR is employee disengagement and changing effort bargains.
According to the World Bank, the five countries with the largest gig economies by total value are China, the United States, India, Japan, and the United Kingdom (the scale in Vietnam is growing but under-researched). With the gig economy now estimated to represent approximately 15%-35% of the workforce in those countries, HR is increasingly challenged to rethink its role in the organisation. Meanwhile, even where employees are still in traditional jobs, up to 85% of employees worldwide are estimated to be “not engaged” or “actively disengaged” at work, leading to lower productivity and increased turnover, and this raises accompanying challenges for HR to address.
To tackle these types of challenges, a new and different HR operating model is needed that will focus on both enhancing employee connection and leveraging digital solutions. The presentation will particularly examine the contributions of authenticity and Industry 4.0 to this new model.
